I feel live every single article about hair wants you to waste your life on oiling, using masks, serums and all those products everyday to be able to detangle your hair.
Luckily, there is faster and easier way to keep your hair silky and shiny without wasting so much time.
In this article I am sharing 4 tips I personally practice that enables me to have silky and shiny hair doing as little as possible to keep it that way.
I dry my hair with heat every day, they get on the sun and salty ocean water as much as possible and have to deal with strong winds on a boat.
So here are the 4 things I do for the past 10 years that changed how much time I need to spend on keeping my hair silky shiny.
#1 SLEEP ON SILK PILLOWCASE
Silk fibers improve hydration and result in smoother and frizz-free hair. Silk is extremely soft material. Even the softest materials, if they are not silk will cause tugging. If you think this is minor, think again, you sleep on a pillowcase 365 days a year, 6-8h every single day. Those chances to tangle your hair are adding up.
I first read about silk pillowcases 10 years ago and immediately bought one for myself. Few months ago I decided to upgrade and have all my sheets made of premium mulberry silk and the difference in quality of my brand new pillowcases are huge. Sleeping in silk sheets is the best thing I ever did for my comfort and my hair and skin. Remember that you are investing in sheets that will last you years and you get to sleep on them every night. I seriously cringe when I have to sleep on a cotton sheets when I am in the hotel but I always take my silk pillowcase whenever I travel. Here is a link to the silk sheets and silk pillowcase I am using.
#2 Do KERATIN TREATMENT 3-4 times a year
Keratin treatment is basically adding keratin to your hair to make it more straight. They are called semi permanent hair straightening treatments and last 3-6 months ( I never use the after care products and put my hair in the salty ocean water and strong winds, so in my case effect stays for 3-4 months. If you avoid all this stuff and use aftercare will most likely last you around 6 months, but like I mentioned in the beginning I don’t live my life around hair and it doesn’t bother me I need to do the treatment more often and enjoy my lifestyle. Here is a picture of my hair 6 months ago. Right after keratin treatment I went to Mexico and spent there whole month, every single day had my hair in ocean and pool water. It was so easy to comb my hair, I had absolutely no issue just use shampoo and dry my hair, no conditioning needed.
Then 3 months later I died my hair blonde, waited 3 more months and did another keratin treatment.
There is a lot of other procedures like nanoplasty, olaplex, hair botox that get way better reviews, but they usually last only till the first time you wash your hair, which makes no sense in my opinion. I did keratin treatment 4 times so far and was always very happy with the results. Make sure you go to a person who uses high quality product without formaldehyde and you will be really happy with the result.
If you have wavy or curly hair- that is obviously not the treatment for you if you want to keep your hair wavy, they will become absolutely straight.
#3 TRIM YOUR ENDS
especially when they become split ends. 6 months ago I discovered this amazing tool that completely changed the game for me. I went to a hairdresser to cut my ends and all she did was cut the bottom ends of my hair I got home and I see the last 10cm (3in) of my hair are white- the amount of split ends was huge and the haircut did nothing to improve it. And somehow I found out about split ender pro. Its a really smart device that cuts all of your ends 1/4inch or 1/8inch, 3-6mm. You use it similarly as you would hair straightener with small parts of your hair and you let it work 3 times on each section. Every single hair on your head will get trimmed it’s ends which is great and you will never ever get this kind of result at a hairdresser. Check out their page to see exactly how the process looks like.
As I was dying my hair blonde 3 months ago the hairdresser did a shatush technique which is blowing out the shorter hair so it looks very natural as the shorter hair don’t get died. I noticed that half of my hair is about 10 cm (4inch) long while the other half is probably 40-50 cm (10-14 inch). Split ender also helps you trim your ends without having to shorten your hair, so you get healthy hair without loosing length. I went to hairdresser to have it done but I am planning to buy it for myself and have my friend do it for me. It’s way cheaper this way and I get to do it whenever I like.
#4 Use SUPPLEMENTS
I use Herbalife supplements for 10 years and it’s been the best investment in my health. The brand you use will greatly impact the results you are getting. Before I started using Herbalife I tested a lot of supplements for 2 years and none of them brought me any results. You have to remember that how we look and feel depends on what we eat, drink and how much we rest. I will list below what minerals your hair needs for growth and what foods will help but if you want an easy (lazy) way to ensure you are getting 100% all required ingredients to your body everyday so all functions works properly than Herbalife is your best solution. 1 shake has around 30% of all vitamins, minerals, protein ect that you need to deliver everyday. Getting all ingredients just from food is impossible.
Hair is made of protein called keratin. However hair requires more than just keratin to help grow long and strong.
Biotin supports hair growth by metabolizing amino acids from food. Amino acids make up the building blocks of protein and thus help form keratin in hair. Hair loss is often a symptom of iron deficiency called anemia.
Vitamin C helps the body to absorb iron thus making sure the body has adequate red blood cells to support hair growth. Vitamin C is also a powerful antioxidant, and protects hair follicles from damaging free radicals that contribute to discoloration and even hair loss.
Zinc supports DNA production, which is required for the division of all cells, including hair follicle cells, and thus, is important for hair growth. Zinc also helps to balance hormones, which is beneficial because unbalanced hormones can be a major factor in some types of hair loss, especially in women. Without enough zinc, the protein structure of the hair follicle can deteriorate, causing hair shedding.
Niacin is another B vitamin that is necessary for healthy hair growth. Niacin (vitamin B3) helps to repair the DNA in hair follicle cells. DNA tells all cells, including those in the hair follicles, how to behave, so without enough niacin, follicles may not produce hair efficiently.
What helps with hair growth
The best way to help hair grow is to make sure that you’re consuming all the vitamins and minerals necessary for healthy hair growth. A diet rich in protein, biotin, iron, vitamin C, zinc, and niacin will fuel hair follicles to optimize their ability to grow hair.
Add hair-healthy foods to your diet including eggs, spinach, beans, citrus fruits, kale, peppers, chicken, oysters, beef, asparagus, mushrooms, and fish.
Stupid things people do that make their hair condition terrible:
- go to bed with wet hair
- don’t comb your hair
